Looking to extend the Capacity Planning applications?

The Fiori apps like Capacity Scheduling Table, and Capacity Scheduling Board support UI-level extensibility, that will allow key users and functional experts to add custom fields and filters using key user extensibility features without writing custom code or requiring in-depth technical knowledge, I will introduce the possible changes by using application:

– Custom Fields

– Manage Characteristic as Custom Fields

Before starting, lets introduce the Business Context available for each application:

1. On Capacity Scheduling Board: You can easily adjust the Order Details displayed and the Operation Info once adjusting elements of UI Technology using Business context: Master Data: Product General and Master Data: Product Plant to add fields

After adjustments you can follow the following Navigation Path to select your new Custom Fields

  • Capacity Scheduling Board app > Select an order operation > Order Details
  • Capacity Scheduling Board app > Select an order operation > Operation Info

2. On  Capacity Scheduling Table: Extensibilities are allowed to adapt New Fields to be selected on Filters criteria and change the Layout of the worklist displayed by adding new additional information customized using business context: Master Data: Product General, Master Data: Product Plant, Order Master Data, Manufacturing: Planned Order Header and Production Orders: Variant Configuration

After adjustments you can follow the following Navigation Path to select your new custom Fields:

  • Capacity Scheduling Table app > Worklist Search filters > Adapt Filters // Flexible Column Layout > Additional Information
  • Capacity Scheduling Table app > Orders Table > Settings // Flexible Column Layout > Additional Information

As part of this blog, I would like to share a Usage case where a customer wanted to personalize the Capacity Planning table to add new custom object for Characteristics used in Variant configuration to segregate the orders/operation displayed and prioritize some fo then to take leveling action in the right time.

——

The CPS application brings integration for business where Advanced Variant Configuration is in place, by allowing the Navigation to the Variant Configuration Screen to view the product configuration for the production orders (indicated by an icon).

In terms of extensibility, the Capacity Scheduling Table app is allowed to add characteristics since release OP2022 and in Cloud Editions, where planners can utilize characteristics from VC specific information to segregate the orders/operation listed and use characteristics as part of the filter criteria.

To achieve this is needed you use ‘Manage Characteristics as Custom Fields’ App

IMPORTANT NOTE :

As per SAP Note: 3220904 characteristic-based Field Extensibility (CFE) solution is redesigned, new business context is introduced (PRODUCTION_ORDER_CFE), where data load logic for characteristic-based custom fields has been optimized, and characteristic master data synchronization has been improved. Old business context (PP_ORD_CONFIGURATION_CFE) is marked as obsolete and should not be considered. BTW, This business Context is applicable as well to enhance Manage Production Orders

Now, after selecting Production Orders – Variant Configuration: PRODUCTION_ORDER_CFE (AFPO) will display the details of the Business Context, where you can click on Edit, which will be allow changes in Draft mode to enable the addition and select de desired characteristic, as example we will select ‘LOBM_APO_SL_MIN’, add a Custom Field description ‘Min Shelf Life’ and click on Save

After saving, the characteristic will be added to the custom Fields list, wait for some time to allow the system to publish, if needed you could use Refresh status for updates, and shortly the Characteristic change to Status “ready to use”, and at the same time checking back on the initial screen, all the business context were displayed, you should now see the new Consolidate status marked as ready to used

Now, to make ACV characteristic custom fields visible and usable in Capacity Scheduling Table app it is also required to extend source by opening Fiori app ‘Custom Field’ app, and into the “Data Source Extensions” and click on the plus button ‘+” to add an extension of data source

A new pop-up window named New Data Source Extension will appear to insert, here you will add Data Source: PP_SCHEDULEPRODUCTION_SRV; Description: ZPP_SCHEDULEPRODUCTION_SRV (or desired), and Extension ID: ZPP_SCHEDULEPRODUCTI, the correlative will be automatically predefined and gray out. Once all is maintained you can select Create

This automatically will open a new Field Section to maintain the available field. Here you can extend the Field Path of Worklist Scheduling Products under Available Field Section, and select the characteristic added in the previous step, then click Save it and Publish.

Be aware that I have created previously another custom characteristic to refer to the Max Shelf Life in my scenario.

Now after refreshing the screen, you will see on the Data Source Extension List the Extension published

Finally, you are now able can navigate to Capacity Scheduling app and adapt the filters or modify the layout by modifying the view setting as needed!!!
